The Everyman

This blog is a prediction of the future.  I am in the process of continually getting better.  I have come a long way and I plan to continue getting better . And this blog is about that adventure. It is about getting healthier, getting smarter, becoming more organized, relaxing more, achieving goals and improving life. But this blog isn’t just about me.  This is the blog for the everyman and the everywoman, every Jon, John, Johnny, Jonathan,Jack, Jaques, Jackie, Jane and Jean out there.

There are many good blogs and books on self improvement and health.  I’ve used many of the ideas I’ve come across through my research of them.  I’ve used these ideas to advance my career.  In the span of three years I received a teaching certification, began teaching, became a lead teacher and then a principal. Before I received my teaching certification I advanced from a technician in a million dollar company to the operations manager in the span of a year.

Prior to those successes I nearly failed college because I wasn’t organized and had no self discipline.  I nearly partied away an education, and when I wasn’t partying I was wired to a Playstation. I barely graduated with a degree in English and Religion and had no idea what I could do with them.  I moved about aimlessly for a couple of years before such a lifestyle became to depressing.  I decided to go back to school and get a teaching degree.

I decided my life had to change, so I headed out west and went back to school.  The move and new scenery were enough to inspire me.  I graduated with highest honors.  The novelty was soon to wear off and I sank into a depression from which I almost never recovered.  I decided to move back to Michigan and with the help of friend and family I got better and then I turned to self-improvement.  I focused first on my career.  In hindsight, I probably should have started with my health, but a least I began somewhere.

I love coming across great ideas and I love sharing them with friends.  Unfortunately, some of the suggestions out there are for people that are on a higher level than me.  Especially in the area of fitness and health.

My health and fitness level is atrocious. On April 14th, of 2009 I was at 278 pounds. I’m seriously out of shape.  I have a multitude of physical ailments, almost all caused by my obesity.  So why would you want to follow me and take any advice that I post on health and fitness and not that of  someone fit and healthy? That is a good question.  I do recommend you read up on those that are successful, but I also suggest you follow me.  Here’s why:

  1. I’m not going to reinvent the wheel.  I am following what works for others.
  2. Many of the people that are already fit have had healthful habits from an early age and may not know what its like trying to achieve success in health after a lifetime of neglect.
  3. I may try things that don’t work and learning what doesn’t work can be just as useful as knowing what does.
  4. Trying to follow in the footsteps of those already in shape can sometimes seem like to big of a challenge, but following along with someone like me might make the challenge a little more conceivable. In other words, If I can do it.  You can do it.
  5. I need you. Everybody needs encouragement.  I’m taking my personal growth public so I can receive your help. I look forward to your words of encouragement.

Join me and all the Johnnys and Janes of the world as we get better.
